Society for Francophone Postcolonial Studies Essay Prize

The Society for Francophone Postcolonial Studies is inviting submissions for the newly established annual SFPS Essay Prize from PhD students and early-career academics (not in permanent employment). The author of the winning essay will receive a prize of £100. The winning essay and the runner-up will be published in the Autumn 2024 issue of the Society’s b-annual journal, the Bulletin of Francophone Postcolonial Studies (BFPS). Submissions should respond to the theme of ‘Travel, Writing, and In/exclusion’ and stick to a limit of 5,000-8,000 words in English or French, using MHRA referencing style. We explicitly encourage attendees of the 2023 SFPS Annual Conference to work their papers into articles, however, this is not a requirement.

The winner and runner-up will be chosen by a jury comprised of members of the Society’s executive committee and the Bulletin’s editorial advisory board. Both winner and runner-up will be paired up with a writing mentor before the deadline of the final draft that will be published in autumn 2024. Please submit your essay to the BFPS editor, Sarah Arens: s.arens@liverpool.ac.uk by 19 April 2024 5pm (GMT).
