This is an event to promote the importance of Australian translators and poets on the national and international cultural scene. Join us and our special guests, Chris Andrews, Toby Fitch and Stephanie Smee to discuss about their translations and adaptations of French texts into English and to find out more about their books and our research project.

1:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.= Translators and poets in conversation: a round table and Q&A with award-winning Australian literary translators Chris Andrews and Stephanie Smee and poet Toby Fitch
This event is part of the “Translation Nation” Project:
Translation Nation: Literary Translation as Cultural Mediation in Australia

This project aims to explore the role of literary translation in the construction of Australian national identity. It will do this by mapping networks of circulation, consumption and production of French literary texts in translation over time from the colonial period, when translations were imported from Britain, through to today’s local industry, which exports Australian translations to the world. This event will focus on the important role of contemporary literary translators and poets on the Australian and international cultural scene.
