Code of Conduct of the Australian Society for French Studies
The Australian Society for French Studies is a scholarly organisation which strives to create a safe, accessible and respectful academic environment that is free from discrimination or harassment. The Society values academic honesty and freedom, individual and group safety and respect for all members regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, transgender or intersex status, disability or illness, age, race, nationality, immigration status, ethnicity, social origin, political views, religion, relationship status, pregnancy or breastfeeding, or family or carer responsibilities.
Discrimination and harassment in all their forms, including online and verbal, are unacceptable and the Society reserves the right to rescind the membership and conference participation of anyone who engages in intimidating, aggressive, bullying or harassing behaviour towards others. The Society does not seek to limit its members’ research areas or participation in scholarly debate. Rather, its goal is to provide a respectful and welcoming scholarly space.
Members should note that they are also bound by the codes of conduct in place at the individual institutions to which they are affiliated. This code does not supersede these workplace codes but is intended to reinforce their message. Relevant federal legislation in Australia includes the Age Discrimination Act 2004, Disability Discrimination Act 1992, Racial Discrimination Act 1975, the Sex Discrimination Act 1984 and the Australian Human Rights Commission Act 1986 as well as individual state and territory legislation.
