Call for submissions: AJFS / ASFS Postgraduate Essay Prize


The AJFS and ASFS committees are pleased to announce that the prize money for the annual AJFS/ASFS Postgraduate Essay Prize has been increased to $800.

Please see the below reminder to all eligible postgraduates to consider submitting an essay for the prize before Monday 16 October 2023.

The Australian Society for French Studies and the Australian Journal of French Studies are pleased to invite submissions for the annual co-sponsored ASFS/AJFS Postgraduate Prize.

A prize of AU$800 will be awarded to the best article (5,000 to 6,500 words including notes) on any aspect of French Studies (except French language Studies) by a postgraduate student. The winning essay will be published in the Australian Journal of French Studies

Applicants must be enrolled in a higher degree by research at an Australian or New Zealand university and be a member of the ASFS. Previous prize recipients are not eligible to submit an article. Articles may be written in English or French and must be presented according to the Australian Journal of French Studies Style Guide. Submissions are assessed by a joint ASFS/AJFS judging committee, which may call upon relevant expertise in its deliberations.

We invite eligible postgraduates to submit their essay via this online form by Monday 16 October 2023. Please submit the anonymisedessay in Word format and carefully follow the AJFS style guidelines.
